Programs for Schools
Some of our cultural initiatives are dedicated strictly to schools. They include travel-study seminars which have allowed us to enrich proposed teaching models that amplify the classroom lessons, provide encounters with first-hand witnesses, supply didactic materials (including bibliographies and films), and finally lead these instructional voyages. The experiences, both organizational as well as cultural, have developed into full-blown “Educational Journeys.”
On the Trail of the Arab-Islamic Presence in Sicily
Palermo, Trapani, Mazara del Vallo, Erice as well as Segesta and Selinunte. This is a unique learning experience based on dialogue and encounter with the Islam of today in the places of the Islam of yesteryear. Visits to “Arab” schools and intercultural dialogue workshops will be guided by qualified Islamologists that work with Confronti.
Voyage of Memory
to the deportation points and places of the Shoah. From the Ghetto in Rome to the Fosse Ardeatine and then on to Nonantola, Carpi, Dachau and Strasburg. These journeys knit together the memory of the tragedies of the Europe of yesterday to the hope of the Europe of today. Each voyage will be accompanied by an actual witness or an expert on the Holocaust.
Days of Memory
Short seminars (of one or two days) with visits to the Rome Ghetto, Jewish museum and synagogue, then on to the Fosse Ardeatine and the Via Tasso Museum. The visits are guided by an actual witness or an expert on the Holocaust.
Voyage of Memory to the 1900’s
Rome, Nonantola, Carpi, Trieste, Udine, and Cercivento.
From the nationalism of World War I to the tragedy of the anti-Jewish persecutions and the Shoah. An instructional and historical odyssey on the topics of nationalism, nazi-fascism, problems of the border areas, and trench warfare sites.
The Religions of Italy
It is a voyage through the various minority religious traditions present in Italy. We are convinced that the visits and meetings—directly and personally with the leaders of the various communities of faith—will help the participants better grasp the complexities and richness of the mosaic of faiths in Italy. Stops will include a Buddhist monastery in Pomaia (PI), a Sikh temple (Novellara), the Islamic Cultural Center of Milan,
a Hindu ashram in Carcare (SV), the Waldensian valleys (TO), as well as Synagogues and Orthodox churches (Venice).
Multireligious Rome
Waldensians and Jews, Muslims and Buddhists, Orthodox and Hare Krishna in the Capital. An instructional journey of two or more days.
Note: During the preparation phase the planning is done in cooperation with the interested teachers. Specific seminars can be arranged to respond to the schools needs.
